Kinky!

Howdy y'all!

So I didn't get braids done like I'd planned. I've been looking after my hair; sticking to braid outs and deep conditioning/co-washes once or twice a week. With exam season in full swing it was time to put hair commitments aside.

Tired of Braid outs...

I've wanted to try out kinky twist for a while... The main problems for me were the fact that my hair was too long before for me to have them done at the length I'd like, and I had been told on numerous occasions that you can't do them on relaxed hair. Something to do with the way relaxed hair would look blended with kinky hair, and relaxed hair being "too straight and too slippery" to keep the twists in place. I'm a little sceptical about these explanations but I steered clear of the kinky twists all the same until yesterday. Braid outs do help conceal the natural re-growth but that can get a little boring. Now that I have a substantial amount of re-growth, even with braid outs the straggly relaxed ends are becoming visible. So I called up a stylist I know and asked if she did kinky twist. Thankfully she does and I'm really pleased with the results.

I bought3 packs Colour 2 (I actually wish I'd gone with 4) Eftress kinky hair and made my way to her place. NB: There are many types of kinky hair e.g. Afro kinky bulk, Marley braid hair, soft and silky afro twist hair etc. The one I bought was not ideal. The texture is a little rough and I was worried it might itch, fortunately for me, once pulled and twisted, the texture didn't seem so bad.

There are two main ways of doing kinky twist; one where each lock starts with a plait and is then twisted, and one where the locks are twisted right from the roots. My stylist went with the first option. I opted for medium sized twists. I have A LOT of hair and I don't have the patience to sit for hours and hours, and I prefer they way the slightly chunkier twists look. Even with medium sized braids it took about 5/5 hours to finish. But I am so happy with the results.

In my opinion, Kinky twist it a good style for natural hair as well as for transitioners, especially if you don't do weaves and need a break from your everyday hair care regime. It's a good protective style.

Protective styles are important for retaining length and keeping hair from external damage. These styles 'protect' the ends of your hair and if kept properly, reduce breakage.

I'll probably keep the twists in for 4-5 weeks.

That's all I've got for now.
