#NaturalHair Current Regimen

It looks like the blog downtime was shorter than expected. I'll still be making some changes over the next couple of days but none of this should not affect the site.

So, I'm always switching it up, but the basics remain the same:

My whole regimen is just a series of different methods and products that: Cleanse (0), Condition (1,2) and Moisturise (3).

Monthly:

  • Cleanse (0): Low sulphates shampoo > TREsemme Naturals lower sulphates shampoo < To get rid of product build up and cleanse my scalp. NOTE: I only do this if I've used products containing silicones at some point during the month and I do a hot oil treatment before I shampoo.

This is always followed by a:

  • Condition (1) and deep condition (2): Silicone-free conditioner: TREsemme Naturals conditioner (I use this for both 1 and 2) > It provides a lot of slip which makes de-tangling a lot easier.
  • (1) I split my hair into manageable sections (normally 4-6), apply a generous amount of conditioner and de-dangle in the shower with my fingers (if I have time) or a denman brush (and then rinse if I'm not deep conditioning).
  • (2) I loosely twist the sections, cover my hair with a plastic cap and use my heat bonnet for about 30-60 mins. I then rinse my hair with lukewarm water.
  • Moisturise (3) and seal: > I (spray my hair with water if needed and then) apply moisturiser/leave-in conditioner in sections (and seal with an oil).

Fortnightly (Every 2 weeks):

  • Cleanse (0): Sulphate-free shampoo > I LOVE Carol's Daughter Monoi Repairing Sulphate-free shampoo. It gently cleanses without stripping my hair and it smells amazing.
  • Condition (1): Silicone-free conditioner > Also Carol's Daughter; the Monoi Repairing Conditioner. It leaves my hair feeling soft and moisturised. It's also good for de-tangling. I then rinse, moisturise and seal.

Weekly:

  • Hot oil treatment: I tend to do this at the weekend. Usually with extra virgin Olive oil or Coconut oil. I dampen my hair and apply warm oil to my hair scalp, and cover it with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes and follow up with a cleanse/co-wash and condition.
  • Co-wash: My co-wash is normally mid week. Always a silicone-free conditioner > TREsemme Naturals or L'Oreal EverSleek conditioner.
  • Deep condition (2): I used the Organic root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing deep conditioner for my weekly deep conditions (also contains silicones).
  • Moisturise and seal.

Daily:

  • Rinse: I don't actually wet my hair daily. I workout about 3 times a week and always make sure I rinse my scalp afterwards to get rid of the salt/sweat.
  • Moisturise: 3 x week or as needed > Profectiv Mega Growth Daily Leave-In. This product is fantastic. It does contain parabens, but it makes my hair soft, shiny, defines my curls and I've used it as a styler for twist outs with great results as well.
  • Twist: I tend to twist my hair after washing/co-washing. If I'm not going out I leave them in during the week. This helps to protect my end and keep the hair stretched and in a state that's easy to style and manipulate. It also helps reduce knots and tangles.

Night time:

  • I Moisturise my hair if it is dry.
  • I twist my hair (6-8) twists and cover my hair with a silk scarf.

I don't always seal with oil after moisturising. I find that if I do it too often my hair gets dry, greasy and frizzy.

It probably sounds a lot more complicated than it is but this routine has made things a lot easier. I still try avoid parabens, silicones and sulphates etc whenever possible to reduce the amount of times I need to shampoo, but I'm more concerned with finding products that make my hair look and feel the way I want it to. When the weather weather improves I'll probably switch back to the Curly Girl Method. But for now, this regimen is working for me. I'm happy with all of the products although a good silicone free deep conditioner and leave-in would be great. I haven't liked any of the others that I've tried recently so the search continues. I'll keep you posted.

That's all for now folks.

Until next time,

Stay healthy, stay happy, stay blessed.
