A few months back I received some products to sample from Simply Organic Oils

I received the Jamaican Black Castor Oil; one large (8oz.) bottle and 4 small (4oz.) travel size bottles, and a large (8oz.) bottle of the Extra Virgin Coconut Oil.

I've heard and read a lot about Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO), but this is the first time I've tried it. The oil is really thick and gloopy, but not as greasy as one might expect. Not as greasy as Olive oil. The consistency reminds me of honey, maybe slightly thinner. It doesn't really have a recognisable scent. Be careful not to use too much. This oil should be applied sparingly. It's also probably best not to get too much of it on your (non-hairy) skin. I read an article last year that said something about castor oil making acne worse if used on the face. I'm not sure how true that is, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I've been using it on my edges on and off (when I remember) for about 3 months now. And I can definitely see an improvement in the coverage/thickness of the hair along my hairline. Perhaps because I've been wearing my hair up in a tight puff a lot recently, I had noticed some thinning and I was starting to worry a little. I started gently rubbing a small amount of the JBCO along my hairline at night, paying extra attention to areas that seemed particularly thin. I then tied a silk scarf around my head like a hair band.

I did chunky box braids at the end of October and which can stress the hairline. I took them out a few days ago. Using the castor oil on my edges seems to have made a difference. My hairline is intact (thank God). I think I have noticed an improvement in the areas that were thinning before too. This may also be down to other factors such as a change in diet and the introduction of multivitamins but the oil seems legit. After about 2-3 months of using it, even sporadically, I feel like my edges are fuller.

So the product gets a thumbs up from me.

I haven't used the coconut oil yet as I still have a bottle at home that I haven't finished but when I do try it out, I'll try to make sure I post something about it.

The Coconut Oil is sold for $9.99

The Jamaican Black Castor Oil Extra Strength (8oz) is sold for $11.99
